Port Davey Cruise - The Southwest
February, 2002...A "crowded anchorage" in Tasmania means sharing a bay with one other yacht. During Adagio's cruise to the World Heritage Area of Port Davey and the South-West National Park, we sure didn't find any "crowded anchorages". Instead what we found is the most unspoiled wilderness cruising area Adagio has visited so far. Everywhere we are surrounded by weather-worn granite peaks - perfectly reflected in the mirror-like waters.
Other than by sea, the only way to explore South-West National Park is to bush-walk in on one of two challenging wilderness tracks. In one anchorage near the South Coast Track we saw a few hikers stopping to have a wistful look at Adagio at anchor. That night the hikers would be dining on freeze-dried and sleeping rough whilst the Adagio crew enjoyed their hot showers and another fine feed with Tasie wine. Hopefully the photo pages will better describe the experience...
