Sydney to Tasmania Again Galleries

Sydney Summer Festival : Febrary, 2003... We made a dash south from the Clarence River to catch the New Year's Eve fireworks in Sydney Harbour. That placed us in the anchorage near the Sydney Fish Market to soak up the 2003 Sydney Festival.

We were so wrapped-up with all the Festival events that we didn't shoot as many photos as we should have. Hopefully we've captured a tiny bit of the electricity of the city of Sydney.

This is definitely a city that should be seen from the water!

Bass Strait Again : February, 2003... We had another fast trip down to Eden -- a quick stop, then another very fast run across Bass Strait to Hobart. The winds were favorable - gradually building to 28-30 steady, gusting 35kn. So we were often surfing to 15kn, with the speed over ground mostly 10.5kn. The night of Feb 6 our log shows several hours of steady 12 to 14kn boat speed.

February 20-22...Our weather window arrived Feb 20, so we hightailed it for Bass Strait. Our anchor was up by 6 am, then just 40 hours later we rounded Tasman Island. Exactly 10.0kn average speed over the ground from Eden. Eight hours later we were abeam of the Iron Pot at the entrance to the Derwent River.

Throughout the passage the winds remained from the NE to ENE from 15 to 30 knots. The wind backed to the North on Friday night, and lightened Saturday morning. The seas were easterly for a while (very wet!), then gradually came around to the NE and became more organized. Our boat speed was mostly 10 knots with some brief surfing episodes in the range of 13 to 16 knots of boat speed, then once Steve watched the boat speed rise to 20 knots in one big long surf - the current record for Adagio.

We never manage to get any photos of Adagio from another boat when the sailing is really fun! For that matter we don't often take any photos on deck either as it can be pretty wet out there - and we try to make our trips foulies-free.
